Who publishes this site

The site at johnwilliamfoster.org is published by JOHN WILLIAM FOSTER, a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales as charity number 219863, with working name Horton-in-Ribblesdale Dole Charities, registered at c/o St Oswald's Church, Church Lane, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, North Yorkshire, BD24 0HD.

Using the site

You may read, print, link to and discuss any page on this site without asking us first. Please do not present this site as your own, scrape it for bulk content, attempt to interfere with its operation, or use it to harass our trustees, recipients or volunteers.

Accuracy of content

We make every effort to keep the site accurate. The charity's financial figures, trustee names, and registration details are taken from the public Charity Commission register and from our own minute book. Historical material — particularly anything about the original Foster bequest — is drawn from parish papers and is identified as reconstruction or transcription where the original is incomplete.

Nothing on this site is legal advice, financial advice or medical advice. If you are seeking advice on Gift Aid, tax, wills, or any related matter, please consult a qualified professional.

Donations

Donations made through this site are voluntary. The current donation form is a demonstration form and does not transmit card data; in a live deployment, payments would be processed by a third-party UK payment provider whose own terms would apply. We do not refund deliberate gifts. Where you have made a genuine error (wrong amount, wrong cadence, duplicate gift), please write to us within 14 days and we will refund or correct the entry.

Resources and downloads

Downloads available from this site (the dole guide, the annual reports, the dispatch archive) are free for personal, parish and educational use. Bulk redistribution for commercial purposes is not permitted without our written consent.

Intellectual property

Our text, photographs and printed materials are © JOHN WILLIAM FOSTER unless attributed otherwise. We license them for non-commercial reuse under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence — please attribute as JOHN WILLIAM FOSTER · Charity 219863 · Horton-in-Ribblesdale. The site code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is licensed under the MIT licence on request.

Linking to us

You may link to any page on this site. Please do not frame the site or present it as part of your own.

External links

Where we link to other websites — including OpenStreetMap, the Charity Commission register, the Information Commissioner's Office, and a small number of partner organisations — we are not responsible for the content of those sites.

Availability

We aim to keep the site available, but we make no guarantee of uptime. The site is statically hosted; it may be briefly unavailable from time to time. Where work is being done on the site, a short notice will be posted.

Disclaimers and liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by English law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is dated at the foot of this page. We will not apply material changes retrospectively to donations or interactions that have already happened.

Governing law

These terms, and any disputes arising in connection with them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The English courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
